Leila Basma jest libańską reżyserką i fotografką, obecnie mieszkającą w Bejrucie i Pradze.
Uzyskała tytuł licencjata sztuk audiowizualnych na IESAV na Uniwersytecie Saint-Joseph w Bejrucie oraz tytuł magistra sztuk pięknych na kierunku reżyseria filmowa na FAMU w Pradze.
W swojej pracy stara się eksplorować tematy społeczeństwa, młodości, kobiecości i tożsamości.
Jej krótkometrażowy dokument z drugiego roku The Adam Basma Project znalazł się na krótkiej liście 48. dorocznych Studenckich Nagród Akademii (Studenckich Oscarów) po tournée po różnych międzynarodowych festiwalach filmów dokumentalnych. Jej prace fotograficzne były wystawiane w różnych galeriach w Bejrucie i Pradze.
Leila jest obecnie w trakcie postprodukcji swojego kolejnego krótkometrażowego filmu Sea Salt, wybranego do Focus Script Program Festiwalu Filmowego w Cannes, i rozwija swój pierwszy pełnometrażowy dokument Dance with Me, który zdobył nagrodę za rozwój Robert Bosch Stiftung.
Leila Basma is a Lebanese filmmaker and photographer currently based between Beirut and Prague.
She holds a BA in Audiovisual Arts from IESAV at the Saint-Joseph University in Beirut, and an MFA in Film Directing at FAMU in Prague.
Through her work, she tries to explore the themes of society, youth, womanhood, and identity.
Her second-year short documentary The Adam Basma Project was short-listed for the 48th annual Student Academy Awards (the Student Oscars) after touring various international documentary film festivals. Her photography work, was exhibited in various galleries in Beirut and Prague.
Leila is currently in post-production with her next short film Sea Salt, selected for the Cannes Film Festival’s Focus Script Program, and she’s developing her first feature documentary Dance with Me winner of the Robert Bosch Stiftung development award.
